It’s not the wisest move to hand over payment two months in advance. But in the case of Diablo 3 — which releases May 15 and is already accepting pre-purchase dollars via Battle.net — all reason rightfully goes out the window. Games with more than a decade of hype behind them can do that to fans.
Yes, that’s the Diablo 3 “box” art for the digital version now going for $60. Don’t be surprised if you were only staring at it one minute and found your credit card swiped the next. It is temptation incarnate. Ah, I give up. There. Just take it, Blizzard.
But let me set it straight. I think the timing of this pre-purchase is a sneaky attempt to rain on the Guild Wars 2 pre-purchase parade. But I guess all’s fair in rival releases and war, right?
